I’m trying, folks, really I am. For the thousandth time, I suppose. I’m about 60 pounds overweight right now. But here’s the true irony: I am in charge of revamping my company’s wellness program. (Physician — heal thyself!!) Some employers offer at work weight loss programs, or cash to help people attend weight loss meetings and the like (and we’ve done that). Some have weigh ins and contests. But I want to help people on an individual level, because I know from my own sordid experience that weight loss is very personal, and very individualized. I started developing a list of the various obstacles people have to losing weight (as well as to maintaining a weight loss), then trying to come up with various ways to those obstacles. For example, I’m thinking of not only the just-excuse obstacles as well

as the real hard-to-get-around ones — “it takes too much time to plan”, “my co-workers won’t stop bringing in cakes”, “I don’t like diet foods”, etc. From my own point of view, I just happen to like too much the “wrong” kinds of foods. One Oreo? Yeh, right — more like 18 Oreos! And I don’t like to exercise. So, let’s just say those are my biggest obstacles. What would it take to help me get over those obstacles?? That’s the bottom line, isn’t it? Forget the HOW to lose the weight, but the WHAT it will take to lose the weight. Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas??? What are your obstacles? I need your advice to help me with my task at work, but mostly for myself.
