Today marks the 10th day of the Insanity Workout for me. Last week I was so sore, there were days when I was moving like an old lady. Today the soreness is more specific, like the back of my right thigh, but my body is getting used to the activity. I like being in a place where my body feels more conditioned and everything is more fluid. It's helpful for me to have a plan of action as far as exercise goes. I wake up do a little work, and when Josh wakes up we exercise. The calendar tells me which workout to do, and I do it. When I have a plan, the excuses are smaller. I can get to a place mentally where I do it anyway. It's staying there that is the challenge. The more times that I do this, get up and exercise, or start again with a routine, the easier it becomes. The alternative is becoming less and less appealing each day that I take the time to make what I want happen. *** I hope you all had a delicious Thanksgiving last week. I wasn't in the mood to post, but want to let you know that I often post my exercise on twitter and facebook , if you care to see what I'm doing there. I'm also tracking my food on myfitnesspal.com . I'm weighing in once a week and so far I'm close to 3 pounds loss from Friday when I weighed in. I'm looking forward to another loss on Friday. This is so random, but do you go through outfit phases? I do. I will wear the hell out of an outfit that I love. This is my new favorite outfit. I don't know why, it's just comfortable and comforting to me. The jacket was purchased at Maurices , late fall last year at a deep discount. The jeans are from walmart of all places and sandals are from Avenue. It happened to be really warm Saturday. I know that look on my face says "something smells", but it was one of the better ones. I also want to use this outfit to track my progress, by taking a picture wearing it every month. More randomness: here's me and Josh on Sunday after a dinner/lunch thing and I wanted to post because I was wearing a new wrap dress that I'm pretty sure was not flattering at this stage of my life, but I wore it anyway and because Josh looks so darn cute. And finally, the last random photo for this post. My favorite salad at the moment. Leafy greens (preferably arugula or spinach) with cranberries, goat cheese, almonds and ginger dressing.

Since I was 15 I can remember being self conscious about my weight. I was an athlete and played water polo and swam year round; being in a bathing suit most of the year made me very aware of my body. Being an athlete I felt as though there was no way for me to change the way my body was because I constantly needed to eat to keep my energy levels up. We would have 'carb-loading' before swim meets and I was always famished after late practices which would lead to my eating late at night. It was a vicious cycle. When I moved away to college I inevitably gained weight because I did not know how to control my cravings nor how to eat healthy. After seeing a picture of myself on vacation in L.A I realized how much I had let myself go. I am 5' 3" and weighed 143lbs, the heaviest I have ever been in my life. I ate out of frustration and didn't feel motivated to change myself; it was especially hard because my boyfriend of the time could eat whatever whenever and never gain an ounce. I ate whenever he ate but unfortunately my body had a different outcome. After a rough breakup I found myself wanting to feel more confident and the first step was to have a healthy body. I became certified in group exercise through AFAA and began teaching classes at Sonoma State University Rec Center; I taught "Core and More" "Track Challenge" "Step and Sculpt" "Indoor Cycling" and "Bootcamp" I began eating healthy balanced meals; eating regularly, smaller more precisely portioned meals. I dropped down to 121 lbs; the smallest i'd been since junior highschool; i had energy and felt confident. I felt so passionate about fitness that i landed a job at a leading fitness industry gym. I found my own passion for working out slowly hindered. After spending 8+ hours at the gym helping others all day I found myself too exhausted to return after work or to come in early. I gained weight and am now back up to 137lbs. I am currently not working at the gym anymore and am determined to get healthy again!

My name is Hanna, I am 19 years old. I have struggled with my perception of a healthy weight since I was 13 (hit puberty.) I always look back at pictures from years ago and think how good I used to look, but then I remember that back then I felt fat too. Since then I have never been happy with my body, and I want to get back to a healthy weight. I am currently 165 and 5'5 I am very athletic so I do not look my weight, but I personally am never happy. My two roommates are VERY slim and I am constantly comparing myself to them. I want some encouragement because whenever I diet I lose about 10lbs then give up. Any advice is good advice. I have problems with bread, it is basically my main weakness...thank you all for your help, Love, Hanna

Is it possible for someone age 62 to become obssessed with weight loss? My sister is having trouble with aging and trys to keep up with the latest styles and trends...and I think she is also trying to become excessively thin. She has always been about a size ten but starves herself now to stay about a size 3. She looks awful...her skin is a strange color, her bones protrude and she complains of being cold constantly. She also is very fatigued all the time. Another obssession is constantly pointing out how "Fat" everyone else is. This is hurtful as I am trying to lose about 40 pounds since I was ill with adrenal insufficiency two years ago and piled on the weight when treated with steroids. The rest of the family (six siblings) also feel she is getting a bit "off" and unstable in her thinking. I am worried for her but she takes great offense when I tell her she is getting too thin for her health and age. She basically thinks I am just jealous but I am not since I am taking off abut three pounds a week now due to a life time change in eating and recovering my health naturopathically. She seems so insecure and is very lonely due to a recent break up. I feel like she is trying too hard to keep that "young" look and instead this is making herself look "very old" beyond her years. How does one approach something like this since she denies she is "too thin"?

I am a camp counselor at a regular camp (not a Fat Camp) and I really need to lose about 15-20lbs. I really want to eat healthy and stay fit because those are two major requirements for my job (not only for my body, but for stress, moods, etc.) The food at camp is essentially basic (scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, Mexican, Greek, etc) so too much fat or too many carbs is not THAT much of a problem (although the desserts are to die for!) For Breakfast, there is always a fruit and yogurt bar which also has cereal, peanut butter and things like that and for Lunch and Dinner they always have a wide variety of veggies at the salad bar (but no fat free dressing options which sucks!) Everyday, the menu is different so it's not boring to be eating the same things over and over and the food is usually tasty and it probably isn't too fattening because it's for kids to eat too...and since childhood obesity is a huge problem, city parks are trying to cut down on fattening meals. So it all sounds simple right? Wrong! It's so hard to maintain a small portion because I just keep on adding and adding more food to my plate, thinking, "just one more piece of bacon is ok, right?" Or "whatever, I'll burn it all anyway by playing freeze tag with my campers" But that's the whole point! I need to burn the calories that I eat so I can LOSE weight, not lose the 8 lbs of french fries I consumed at lunch! Besides all that, the job really is stressful; I have so many responsibilities that food and diet should be the last thing on my mind, but that's what life is about isn't it? Trying to juggle everything in your life (career, diet, family, etc). So if anyone has any ideas about what foods to eat and how to stop when I need to and things like what to eat to target fat, and relieve stress or just some ways to shed a few pounds, please share because I really want to lose weight this summer and go back to college and focus more on my studies and be happy with my body. Thanks so much for your support!
