by Stacey May You may have wanted to start a weight loss diet many times in the past. Perhaps you held back because it seemed too difficult and complex. Judging by all the information about dieting that’s out there, there are a lot of myths making the rounds. Hopefully, we can dispel some of them here. 1. The number one myth out there is that you can lose weight fast by eliminating as many calories as possible from your diet. This is an extremely unhealthy way to go about dieting. Your body thinks it’s starving and will cling to its fat stores tenaciously. 2. Another myth we face in our quest for a slimmer waistline is one that tells us to eat only one specific type of food. The peppered water, grapefruit and the hot dog diet fads have resulted in many binges over the years. An unbalanced fad diet will result in not enough nutrients that are essential for good health and a strong immune system. 3. Perhaps you’ve read that you must never stray from your eating plan, even the tiniest bit. And if you do, you must pay the price by doubling up on your workouts. This is totally wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the occasional bowl of ice cream. It’s only necessary that you cut back on your calories for a day or two. There’s really no need to exercise for hours just to compensate for one little treat. 4. A popular myth is that you should avoid eating before bedtime because your body will just store all the calories as fat. But this is wrong;

dieting is just a healthy style of eating and keeping an eye on how many calories you take in throughout the day. A bite to eat just before going to bed won’t matter one way or the other. Unless, of course, it’s a 5-course meal or an entire frozen cheesecake. 5. How about the one that says you can’t eat anything between meals? Snacks are actually part of a healthy eating style. Eat smaller meals throughout the day to keep your hunger satisfied. You only cause yourself to be overly hungry at mealtime when you don’t let yourself snack. You might end up eating considerably more food than your body requires just to keep hunger at bay. 6. Another myth concerns dairy products, and tells you to completely avoid them because they’ll make you fat. But dairy contains nutrients your body needs, so you shouldn’t eliminate it from your diet. Indeed, there is research indicating that regular consumption of dairy products can lead to dropped pounds. Just make sure you limit your amounts and go for the low-fat versions. Avoid being conned by all the myths about weight loss that abound on various websites. By eating healthfully (as a general rule) and exercising regularly, you can achieve healthy weight loss.
